IADSA update on international supplement regulations

AHPA is an active member of IADSA and is distributing the IADSA Newsflash as a member benefit. IADSA is an association focused on the globalization of food supplement markets and regulatory challenges. This issue of the IADSA Newsflash covers:

• Food Safety Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) determined that most of the 33 food ingredients put on hold earlier in 2018 were not suitable for use in food supplements.
• The EU recently authorized four novel supplements ingredients, including the dried aerial parts of Hoodia parviflora.
• The EU is considering whether to set limits for 21 pyrrolizidine alkaloids in food supplements.
• EU member states are considering whether limits on intake of green tea catechins are needed.
• Belgium has expanded its list of analytical methods for analysis of certain plants for which maximum daily doses are recommended.
• Several countries have issued revisions to their regulations governing food supplements.
