AHPA updates eight entries to the online Botanical Safety Handbook 2nd Ed. in first 2022 release

AHPA members can obtain a hard copy or an annual individual subscription to the online Botanical Safety Handbook for $95.00, with multi-user rates available for companies needing expanded access.

FDA releases FY23 budget request and summary documents

March 2022: The agency requests include mandatory product listing and a total budget of $8.4 billion

This week, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released its FY23 budget request and summary documents, outlining many matters of significant interest to the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) and its members.

AHPA supports humanitarian efforts for Ukrainian refugees in Poland

March 2022: AHPA encourages members to join the association in answering a call for support by the Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research

The Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research (Gesellschaft für Arzneipflanzenforschung e.V. [“GA”]) recently issued a call for support of refugees impacted by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) has joined the American Herbal Pharmacopeia (AHP) in endorsing this request with a modest financial contribution.

AHPA releases educational materials in Chinese for prevention of pyrrolizidine alkaloid contamination

March 2022: New educational materials provide a brief overview of the topic of PA containing weeds that are common in many agricultural areas

AHPA has published Chinese versions of educational resources that finished product marketers and botanical ingredient companies can provide to their supply chains to help educate farm managers and workers about best practices for avoidance of pyrrolizidine alkaloid (PA) contamination.

AHPA charters new Psychedelic Plants and Fungi Committee

March 2022: Elan Sudberg of Alkemist Labs appointed committee chair

At the board meeting on March 8, 2022, the AHPA Board of Trustees chartered the AHPA Psychedelic Plants and Fungi Committee. The purpose of this new committee will be to address issues related to the safe use and responsible commerce of lawfully marketed products derived from psychedelic plants and fungi. Elan Sudberg, CEO of Alkemist Labs, was appointed as the committee’s first chair.
