Sharaf to discuss AHPA initiatives at 17th annual ICBS in Mississippi

American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) Chief Science Officer Maged Sharaf, Ph.D., will discuss initiatives within the industry that ensure sustainable supplies of high quality raw materials, efficient compliance with good manufacturing practice requirements, and broad stakeholder support and participation during the 17th Annual International Conference on the Science of Botanicals (ICSB) being held April 3-6 in Oxford, Miss. The meeting will explore the topic of synergy between natural products and human health and will review, discuss, and explore the confluence of current research topics related to natural products research and development as well as topics related to safety, quality and regulatory aspects.
 
Dr. Sharaf's presentation, "Industry Initiatives to Ensure Continued Quality and Sustainability," will explore several AHPA initiatives that support the shared goals of the herbal and dietary supplement industries and provide details of a case study. 
 
The event will feature world renowned speakers, provide a perspective on developments in natural products and botanicals - with a focus on the current trends including regulatory aspects, find out about the latest research and Interact with researchers during the large poster session, and establish collaborations between universities and research institutes and industry.

This conference is supported by a cooperative agreement between the National center for Natural Products Research (University of Mississippi) and the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. It is co-sponsored by the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica/CAS, China; the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, the Ministry of Indigenous Medicine; Sri Lanka; the American Society of Pharmacognosy; the Society for Medicinal Plant Research; the Korean Society of Pharmacognosy; The Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, and AHPA.
