AHPA's Good Agricultural Collection Practices and Good Manufacturing Practices for Botanical Material (GACP-GMP) has been endorsed by the United Natural Products Alliance (UNPA).

"UNPA is confident that this comprehensive guidance and its accompanying assessment tools will help promote proper identification of and reduce the adulteration of botanical raw materials, with a goal of providing high-quality ingredients for dietary supplements and other natural health products," stated UNPA President Loren Israelsen in a letter of endorsement. "We will encourage our member companies to incorporate the AHPA GACP-GMP into their own growing, procurement and processing operations."

UNPA is the most recent association to endorse AHPA's guidance. The guidance has also been endorsed by the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) and Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA).

Letter of Endorsement from UNPA

I am pleased to send you this letter of endorsement from the United Natural Products Alliance (UNPA) in support of the new American Herbal Products Association initiative, the Guidance on Good Agricultural and Collection Practices and Good Manufacturing Practices for Botanical Materials(GACP-GMP).

UNPA is confident that this comprehensive guidance and its accompanying assessment tools will help promote proper identification of and reduce the adulteration of botanical raw materials, with a goal of providing high-quality ingredients for dietary supplements and other natural health products. The guidance serves as a standard for the entire botanical supply chain, specifically growers and processors, and has the potential to ably serve end-use supplement consumers.

Along with the creation of a new best-practices standard for the growing, sourcing and processing of botanical materials, the assessment tools, covering cultivation, wildcrafting, harvesting, post-harvesting, processing and recommendations for dietary ingredient suppliers, provide a clear road map for how to achieve the good manufacturing practices outlined in the guidance.

Although we are not making adoption of the GACP-GMP a condition of membership in UNPA, we will encourage our member companies to incorporate the AHPA GACP-GMP into their own growing, procurement and processing operations. We will continue to support joint industry efforts that advance safety, science and quality.

Sincerely,

Loren Israelsen
President
