    Meet the Herbalists

    Feather Jones

    Feather Jones is a Registered Clinical Herbalist in Western Herbalism who integrates herbal remedies, holistic nutrition, flower essences and stress reduction guidance. Her 30-year career in teaching herbal medicine and clinical practice, coupled with a background in Native American (Mandan) tribal teachings, provides her clients and students with a synergistic approach to health and healing. Presently, Jones is Adjunct Professor of Botanical Medicine at the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine. As well, she was twice past president for the American Herbalists Guild.

    David Winston, RH (AHG)

    David Winston is an Herbalist and Ethnobotanist with 49 years of training in Chinese, Western/Eclectic and Southeastern herbal traditions. He has been in clinical practice for over 40 years and is an herbal consultant to physicians, herbalists and researchers throughout the USA and Canada. In 2013 David was presented with the Natural Products Association (NPA) Clinician’s Award and awarded a fellowship by the Irish Register of Herbalists.

    David is the founder/director of the Herbal Therapeutics Research Library and the dean of David Winston’s Center for Herbal Studies, a two-year training program in clinical herbal medicine. He is an internationally known lecturer and frequently teaches at medical schools, symposia and herb conferences. He is the president of Herbalist & Alchemist, Inc. a manufacturer that produces herbal products that blend the art and science of the world’s great herbal traditions. In addition, David is a founding/professional member of the American Herbalist Guild, he has served four terms on the Board of Directors and he is on the American Botanical Council's Advisory Board.

    David was a contributing author to American Herbalism, published in 1992 by Crossings Press, and the American Herbal Pharmacopoeia (AHP) , 2000-2013, the author of Saw Palmetto for Men & Women, Storey, 1999 and Herbal Therapeutics, Specific Indications For Herbs & Herbal Formulas, HTRL, 2013 and the co-author of Adaptogens: Herbs for Strength, Stamina and Stress Relief, Healing Arts Press, 2007, and Winston and Kuhn’s Herbal Therapy and Supplements; A Scientific and Traditional Approach, Wolters Kluwer/Lippincott, 2008. He is also a member of the AHPA Expert Advisory Council that created the new edition of the Botanical Safety Handbook, CRC Press, published in 2013.

    Roy Upton, RH, DipAyu

    Trained in Ayurvedic, Western, and Traditional Chinese herbalism, Upton has been working professionally as an herbalist for more than 30 years. He is the executive director and editor of the American Herbal Pharmacopoeia, an organization dedicated to the development of quality control standards for botanical medicines. Upton is former president and vice-president of the American Herbalists Guild (AHG), director of Planetary Herbals, a member of the Standards Committee of the American Herbal Products Association, and serves on advisory committees of American Botanical Council, AOAC International, NSF International, and the Lloyd Library and Museum.

    Erin Smith

    Erin Smith, MSc, CCH, is a clinical herbalist and ethnobotanist and has been working with medicinal plants for over 25 years. Bringing together her passion for plants and cultures, she received her masters of science in ethnobotany with distinction from the University of Kent in Canterbury, where her thesis focused on women’s knowledge of traditional medicine in Morocco. She has taught internationally on herbal medicine, ethnobotany, and the human/nature relationship for 15 years and has spent more than 12 years living and working abroad in more than 20 countries. Smith currently oversees education and sustainability at WishGarden Herbs in Colorado as their education and sustainability manager and consults and teaches internationally on herbal medicine and ethnobotany.
