• China is considering the addition of 5 functional ingredients to its food raw materials directory, including reishi powder and spirulina
• China is also considering changes to permitted health food function claims
• India is considering microbiological standards for nutraceutical products
• Japan has plans to institute more stringent “GMO free” labeling requirements
• The EU has decided to prohibit the use of yohimbe and its preparations; it was “under scrutiny” for 4 years due to uncertainty about its harmful effects on human health and no data were submitted to support its safety during that period
• French authorities have decided to ban the use of titanium dioxide on food and food supplements; this decision will be addressed with the European Commission and other Member States in mi-May. 
• The French food safety agency has called for better consumer education of the potential risks associated with glucosamine/chondroitin joint health supplements
• Saudi Arabia has published draft rules for the submissions of “herbal and health product” submissions for the registration of such products
• Mexican authorities have revoked the guidelines and criteria for assessing the use of cannabis, including in food supplements
• Ukraine is harmonizing food labeling standards with the EU
