June 11, 2019: AHPA partners with CRN, CHPA and UNPA to produce this unique advocacy opportunity

Published: Tuesday, June 11, 2019

More than 30 AHPA members and staff participated in the 2019 Day on the Hill, a collaboration between the leading trade associations for the dietary supplement industry, AHPA, the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), the Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA), and the United Natural Products Alliance (UNPA). The event provided members with a unique opportunity to engage with Congressional offices about the benefits of dietary supplements and herbal products, legislative developments and the importance of these products to constituents' health and wellness, and the economy.

The Day on the Hill encourages dietary supplement companies to take an active role in advocating for reasonable regulation and to put a face on the responsible dietary supplement industry.

At this year's event, participants provided members of Congress and their staff with background information on how dietary supplements are regulated, the positive economic impact of the supplement industry and how companies ensure their products are safe and effective. Among other issues, attendees also advocated for:

  • A legal pathway for hemp-derived CBD in dietary supplement products
  • Additional funding for FDA's Office of Dietary Supplement Programs (ODSP)
  • Allowing Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to be used to purchase certain dietary supplements

Day on the Hill participants also encouraged members of Congress to join the Dietary Supplement Caucus.
