AHPA staff and members presented at several supplement events last week to represent AHPA member interests and provide expert insights into issues impacting the industry.
AHPA President Michael McGuffin presented on a panel of FDA officials and supplement association leaders at the Dietary Supplement Regulatory Summit. Many members attended this annual collaboration between AHPA, the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), the Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA), the Natural Products Association (NPA) and the United Natural Products Alliance (UNPA). The full-day regulatory summit featured updates and insights from FDA and industry regulatory experts.
McGuffin also presented on New Dietary Ingredient Notification (NDIN) requirements and exceptions at the FDA-CFSAN Public Meeting: Responsible Innovation in Dietary Supplements. A video of McGuffin's presentation is available online.
McGuffin and AHPA Chief Science Officer Holly E. Johnson, Ph.D., provided expert insights at the U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention (USP) Dietary Supplement Stakeholder Forum held on Wednesday. The event also featured presentations by AHPA Board Member Aaron Secrist from NOW Foods and Duffy MacKay, Ph.D., from AHPA member company CV Sciences. AHPA provided input on a host of issues, including hemp, regulatory initiatives, pesticides and food allergens.
McGuffin presented on Friday at the 3rd SoCal Dietary Supplement Consortium on the 2018 Farm Bill and how it impacts hemp and hemp-derived products, including cannabidiol (CBD)
