The American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) announces David Vobora, founder, Adaptive Training Foundation (ATF), will serve up inspiration with a side of never-give-up as he tells his story to attendees at the AHPA Sports Nutrition Congress taking place virtually on October 21.

No stranger to adversity, Vobora jokes about being tagged with the nickname, Mr. Irrelevant, when he was picked last in the 2008 NFL Draft. Today, he’s anything but!

His four-year career as a pro linebacker with the NFL’s Rams and Seahawks was cut short at age 25, when he was felled by a shoulder injury followed by an addiction to painkillers as he faced an identity crisis about what to do with the rest of his life.

Vobora turned his life around after kicking his addiction and opening up a gym. But he found an even greater purpose the day he met US Army Staff Sergeant Travis Mills, a quadruple amputee. Together, they built a customized, adaptive workout plan to address the unique challenges posted by Mills’ injuries, and Vobora’s passion for helping other veterans with similar challenges was born in the form of the Adaptive Training Foundation.

His keynote address will focus on his life-altering experience, providing inspiration for an audience that appreciates athletes as well as the role that food, dietary supplements, training and lifestyle provides for the sports nutrition community at large.

“We’re proud to recognize and honor this hero who helps our country’s heroes find fulfillment through adaptive performance training by featuring him as the keynote speaker at AHPA’s Sports Nutrition Congress,” said Robert Wildman, AHPA Sports Nutrition Committee Chair and Chief Science Officer at Dymatize. “Certainly, the world can use more inspiration now, and as David (“DV”) Vobora talks about the good he does, we, the sports nutrition community, will in turn translate that into the greater good we can do. That would indeed be inspirational.”

Vobora’s keynote address will be the last full session of the day, followed by closing remarks from AHPA President Michael McGuffin.

“Our inaugural Sports Nutrition Congress will be packed with practical information for companies and individuals with a stake in this space. Our expert speakers will cover business building and consumer trust, regulation, liability and risk reduction, developing a cost-effective research program for companies, and more,” said McGuffin. “David Vobora’s motivational keynote should leave attendees with a shining example of what it means to be part of the sports nutrition community.”

Now through October 5, AHPA is offering registrants an Early Bird Discount of 20% off the general registration fee of $449 (AHPA members) and $575 (non-members) by using Code EBSNC20.
