Silver Spring, MD, May 13, 2021 -- The American Herbal Products Association (AHPA), the national trade association and voice of the herbal industry, today announced five updated entries have been posted to the online reference source, the AHPA Botanical Safety Handbook 2nd Ed.

The following entries have been updated:
- Crocus sativus (saffron) - A September 2020 review identified numerous clinical trials, case reports, pharmacology studies, and toxicity studies.
- Vaccinium spp. (cranberry) - A November 2020 review identified additional drug interaction and clinical trial information.
- Vaccinium spp. (blueberry fruit) - A January 2021 review identified clinical trial and case reports relevant to this botanical.
- Vaccinium spp. (blueberry leaf) - A December 2020 review changed the safety class from 2d to 1, based on review of new studies and re-evaluation of human chronic exposure concerns.
- Vinca minor (lesser periwinkle) - A July 2020 review identified a clinical trial of vincamine and references for potential side effects.

AHPA Botanical Safety Handbook
- The online AHPA Botanical Safety Handbook (BSH) is undergoing review of existing entries and the addition of new entries to provide the latest safety information before it can be included in the next print edition of the handbook.
- The online format version has several additional features. Online BSH subscribers can search for keywords and botanical names and easily access the information they use most by saving personalized lists of entries. The online version is also updated regularly with new research, and subscribers will be notified of updates to provide immediate access to the most current information. The online version is optimized for smartphones and other mobile devices.
