AHPA President Michael McGuffin stressed that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) must make some significant changes to previous positions on new dietary ingredients (NDIs) in order to successfully create an authoritative list of old dietary ingredients (ODIs) in a statement delivered yesterday at a public meeting held by FDA to discuss the development of a list of pre-DSHEA dietary ingredients.

Rep. Mia Love, R-Utah, has taken on a new leadership role as a co-chair of the Congressional Dietary Supplement Caucus (DSC). Love replaces Rep. Jason Chaffetz, formerly a DSC co-chair, who retired from the House of Representatives this summer.

The 30th Congressional Dietary Supplement Caucus luncheon briefing, held last week on June 21, featured celebrated U.S. soccer player Christie Pearce (formerly Rampone), who said dietary supplements saved her and her family’s lives. Speaking before an audience of 115 Congressional staffers and guests, Ms. Pearce shared personal stories and discussed the role dietary supplements have played in supporting peak athletic performance throughout her career, as well as the unique nutritional needs of her fellow players and family.

American Herbal Products Association and ASTM International Sign MOU on Cannabis Standards

June 8, 2017: Groups will work together on standards for the cannabis industry

Global standards organization ASTM International and the American Herbal Products Association announced a Memorandum of Understanding to work together on standards for the cannabis industry. The news comes in advance of the first meeting of ASTM International’s new cannabis committee, June 11 and 12.
