Committee Purpose:

  • To represent to international bodies and at international meetings and events AHPA's policies and positions on relevant international topics impacting the herbal products industry in the United States;
  • To monitor, report back and recommend appropriate action to AHPA with respect to issues, movements, international regulatory issues, etc., impacting the U.S. market and specifically AHPA member companies;
  • To encourage and help AHPA build international markets for U.S. made herbal products.

Proposal would increase tariffs on flax, hemp seed, ginseng, mushrooms, fish oils, minerals, and more

The U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) is proposing an additional 10 percent ad valorem duty on numerous Chinese imports with an annual trade value of approximately $200 billion. The list of products of China identified by USTR as subject to this new proposed tariff includes many herbal and plant-derived substances as well as a number of other ingredients found in dietary supplements.

March 2018: Annotation for American ginseng should exclude sliced roots from CITES export and import controls

In comments submitted to U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), AHPA requested that the agency propose at the 18th Conference of the Parties (CoP18) of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) to amend the annotation for American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius) to exclude sliced roots from CITES export and import controls.
