The American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) has contacted the U.S. Trade Representative requesting the removal of punitive tariffs from a range of products relevant to the herbal products industry.

March 2022: AHPA encourages members to join the association in answering a call for support by the Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research

The Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research (Gesellschaft für Arzneipflanzenforschung e.V. [“GA”]) recently issued a call for support of refugees impacted by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) has joined the American Herbal Pharmacopeia (AHP) in endorsing this request with a modest financial contribution.

In this issue of the IADSA Newsflash: China has new rules for food importation and facility registration going into effect on January 1, 2022, with no transition period currently defined; Korea has modified the warning statement for the following functional ingredients: ginseng, red ginseng, chlorella, milk thistle extract, marigold extract, indigestible maltodextrin, and MSM; in the European Union (EU), a ban on the use of titanium dioxide is expected to enter into force in early 2022 with a 6-month transition period to a ban on use of this ingredient in food products; and more!

The American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) provided a letter of support to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) following the September 14, 2021 announcement of WADA’s Executive Committee recommendation that a scientific review of cannabis (Cannabis sativa L.) will be undertaken by the agency in 2022.

AHPA encourages FDA to study “healthy” claim symbol in herbs, spices and teas

July 2021: Request reflects and references previous comments from AHPA

In comments submitted to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on July 6th, the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) requested revisions to proposed research by the agency on front of package symbols intended to convey the claim “healthy”. In these comments, AHPA requested that FDA expand their research to capture how consumers may respond to the “healthy” symbol in a wider range of package formats, including retail packaged spices and retail packaged tea products.
