AHPA opposes MPL provisions in FDASLA Act

Senate HELP Committee advances FDASLA Act by a vote of 14 to 9

AHPA opposes S. 4348 as passed out of the Senate HELP Committee. AHPA views the MPL provisions contained within S. 4348 as creating unnecessary, significant, and redundant burdens on industry. Moreover, to date, neither the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) nor other advocates for MPL have clearly articulated the need for this premarket product listing requirement.

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has launched a new education project that claims to broaden public understanding of dietary supplements. The campaign, titled “Supplement Your Knowledge,” includes infographics, fact sheets, and videos targeted at consumers, educators, and healthcare professionals.

AHPA drives revisions to California weight loss product bill

Amended bill removes retail access restrictions, clarifies definition

A California bill which threatened consumer access to many safe dietary supplements has been amended to resolve concerns by the affected industry. Assembly Bill 1341, sponsored by Assemblymember Cristina Garcia, had originally applied extensive physical access and age restrictions to a broadly defined class of dietary supplement and OTC products “sold for or used with the intent to achieve weight loss.”
