This week, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released its FY23 budget request and summary documents, outlining many matters of significant interest to the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) and its members.
The Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research (Gesellschaft für Arzneipflanzenforschung e.V. [“GA”]) recently issued a call for support of refugees impacted by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) has joined the American Herbal Pharmacopeia (AHP) in endorsing this request with a modest financial contribution.
AHPA has published Chinese versions of educational resources that finished product marketers and botanical ingredient companies can provide to their supply chains to help educate farm managers and workers about best practices for avoidance of pyrrolizidine alkaloid (PA) contamination.

At the board meeting on March 8, 2022, the AHPA Board of Trustees chartered the AHPA Psychedelic Plants and Fungi Committee. The purpose of this new committee will be to address issues related to the safe use and responsible commerce of lawfully marketed products derived from psychedelic plants and fungi. Elan Sudberg, CEO of Alkemist Labs, was appointed as the committee’s first chair.
